Summit Chess provides a world class in-school chess education program that can help teach students how to learn while having fun. In addition to teaching novices through experts, Summit Chess offers a mentoring program whose approach to bringing chess to children and adults continues to change lives. Kids and adults have fun, participate in mental gymnastics, and learn how to compete with others while playing a fun game.

Summit Chess has joined forces with International Master Larry Evans of Mountain Lake Chess Camp, famed for his chess training camps in San Diego, Lake Arrowhead and Hong Kong. Our combined teaching experience amounts to over 20 years in schools and other venues across San Diego County. Dubbed the “Evans Method” by the United States Chess Federation (and once featured on the Tonight Show), this uniquely interactive teaching style employed by Summit Chess educators has transformed thousands of children and youth and produced national chess champions at every scholastic level.

Chess is a great workout for mental skills and creative thinking. It’s problem-solving. Students learn to think ahead, evaluate multiple alternatives and anticipate consequences. They improve spatial reasoning, visual memory and attention span while learning good judgment and self-confidence. Chess has strong educational value. It teaches critical & abstract thinking, planning, logic and analysis. It improves the ability to concentrate and teaches the value of good sportsmanship. Chess also teaches the importance of behavior management: making good choices and considering all possibilities. Studies have shown that chess players improve overall in their grades, test scores and thinking abilities.

Elementary School Sessions are 6-10 weeks, meeting once per week for 1 hour. Each week students will win prizes for their active participation and attention. Many students win trophies and all students play in a final team match on a giant chess set.

Summit Chess makes the game of chess easy to understand and fun for all ages. Playing chess is a skill that children will carry into their old age, sharing what they have learned with others. It will sharpen their analytical and observation skills which will be very useful in all aspects of their life.
